Coming to Ojai, CA

Ojai is about to get several new additions to the Libbey Park Playground.

This week I will be installing a giant 5 ton, 20 foot long lizard, a huge Ladybug and fun archway.

Be sure check back here in mid October. I will be posting a detailed blog of the entire build process including photos of the completed art, an image gallery of the installation (it’s not everyday you see a 5 ton lizard flying through the air) and details of the many components with explanations of the engineering and work that was required for this project.

Ventana Magazine Feature

I’m honored to be the featured artist in the August 2015 issue of Ventana Magazine.

This is their “ARTS ISSUE” which contains interviews and articles on several artists. I was fortunate to be included and lucky enough to make the cover. Ryan Smith wrote the article and staff photographer Rudy Loupias visited the studio and took some wonderful images.

Focus on the Masters

I’d like to thank Donna Granata and the staff and crew at Focus On The Masters for selecting me as one of their 2015 Featured Artists. I’m honored and humbled to be included in the FOTM Archive and to have so many people interested in my work.

I found the documentation process, though time consuming, very insightful. It uncovered and illuminated trends and threads in my life and career that I had not noticed, and for that bit of insight I am extremely grateful.

The “Spotlight” interview was filmed live at Brooks Institute. Attendees were treated to a historic overview […]

Playing with paint

A few months ago I started experimenting with acrylic paints and mediums. The versatility and variety of the medium intrigued me. Acrylic paints come in consistencies from water thin inks to solid (acrylic crayons), with full bodied gessos and thick building mediums that dry quickly – these characteristics seemed ideal for my venture into the 2D world of painting.

As you can see by my first attempts, my background as a sculptor and glass artist are influencing these works.
I especially like the ability to create depth by layering translucent colors and textures.

These are just a few examples – […]

One step closer

The Santa Barbara Architectural Board of Review (ABR) yesterday awarded “Project Approval” for the “Wings of Honor” sculpture at the Santa Barbara Airport.

We last went in front of the ABR on April 30th of 2012, where we gained “preliminary approval”. Since then we have worked diligently to refine the project and walk it through the numerous levels of governmental approvals required.

Yesterday’s project approval “locks down” the aesthetics of the project and allows us to go full steam ahead with the detailed engineering required to bring this to life.

My involvement with this project began in November of 2010 when I […]

“Stream” at the Ojai Valley Museum

My newest artwork titled “stream” is on public display at the “Rejuvenation” exhibit at the newly remodeled Ojai Valley Museum.

The show, curated by Museum Director Michele Ellis Pracy, features the work of over 60 members of the Ojai Studio Artists association. The show opened Saturday April 26th with a gala reception and runs through June 14th, 2014.

“Stream” is an alpha level prototype of a much larger and richer interactive environment designed for public spaces.

It uses a structured light imaging sensor to capture thirty 3-dimensional images per second, which are digitally processed to identify and isolate any humans from the background, the resulting […]

New works – Trinity

Today I’m posting images of three new works on my “trinity” series.
These sculptures, including the forged iron hanger, are 14 inches wide x 36inches tall, and hang 3.5 inches off the wall.

The glass contains hundreds of small bubbles which act like lenses projecting a random pattern on the wall. Each glass panel is free-hanging, wrapping around a forged iron rod which allows the glass to gently sway in a breeze – which in-turn creates wonderful moving translucent shadows on the wall.

Enjoy…
